laser thermometers will measure the surface temps.

Wont tell you the internal temps which tell you if the item is done.

The laser is nice but get the regular Thermapen first, you will get far more work out of that than anything else. Later you can add the laser. I have 3 Thermapens and when ever I'm griling, BBQing or cooking for a crowd I have one cliped on my belt, it's with me all the time. I use my laser but not that much.

a lazer is a fast way to tune a smokers tuning plates if it has them or identifying hot spots ,also could be used determing what temp the fire box needs to be adjusted too,keeping records of your cooking chamber temps vs firebox vs outside temps can save time $ & worrying about cooking times.you can never have too many gadgets mike243
