Just got a lease in Kentucky with guaranteed booners on farm. The only problem is I can only hunt one week during rifle season because I have to share that time with others. However I can hunt the rest of the season. My question is with limited available time to hunt due to having young kids at home, would you focus on bowhunting and a weekend mz hunt or wait until the second week of gun season?

They are big time row crop producers and he actually times his harvest (best as nature will allow) to optimize his hunting on this place.

The two best times to hunt Kentucky in my opinion are the first two weeks of September, and the first two weeks of November.
If you hunt early mornings or evenings over a soybean field or food source in September the hunting is often great, then of course the first two weeks of November are great because of the rut.

Isnt KY gun season a week later this year, like opening on Nov 14? I have hunted so many different places over the last several years that I cant remember if mid Nov is typical for KY gun opener or if last years Nov 7 opener was typical.
Regardless, the bow hunting in Nov this year should be great.

Always 2nd Sat in November..... I believe this year is the latest it can ever open..... I'm looking forward to the 7-13 myself.

It opens of Nov. 14 this year. A whole week later than last year. IMO and experience those West Ky bucks start locking down around the 15-17th

The Rut activity really seems to depend where your hunting in Kentucky. It seems like in mid November in some areas a of Bucks are locked down with does, but in other areas a lot of Bucks are still up looking for does. I've seen Bucks up in daylight hours chasing does, cruising for does, and checking scrapes during every week of November. So really it's possible to take a good Buck during any week of November. The first 10 days of November are usually the best time to see Bucks up cruising for does in daylight hours based on what I have seen over the years in western Kentucky.

Im with Roost on this one. 7th-13th. The week before the guns start popping is alright with me.
The guns going off along with everybody and their brother from here to Fl is what's causes them to lock down.... Lol

The bow hunters will have some good times this year in KY. With gun not opening till Nov 14th. The 5-13 will be awesome

I agree the first 2 weeks of NOV will be good this yr in KY for Bowhunters. Gun hunters definitely wont miss all the action but the last 7-10 days before gun opens will be a treat if the weather is good??
