Anyone have any advice on LBL shore layout blind hunting. Or anyone want to join in. I have boat,2 1/2 dz mallard, dz diver , a few geese, and a couple layout blinds. Thinking of hunting fri and sat morning.

Hunted fri and sat morning. Not much happened fri due to setting up on the big water. Then i found birds in the back of the coves. Not alot but a few. Sat morning set up were i seen the most birds . To bad it stayed dark so long that morning with the storm moving in and my bad eyes. Ended up with 2 hoodies and 2 mallards. Talked with several locals that told me it gets a lot better the birds just are not here yet.

It doesn't get much better with Verizon or others, either. LBL has a large dead area in it with virtually no cell coverage.

If you are going to be around the water on KY lake in the winter where an accident could make hypothermia a real possibility, I would suggest thinking about a hand-held marine two way radio. There is a lot of commercial marine traffic on KY lake that constantly monitors the marine channels who could and would respond to a distress signal by at least getting help headed your way. With the absence of a lot of recreational traffic on the lake during the winter months, the marine channel is probably your best bet for getting some help in the event of an accident or boat issues.

It looks like you can get into a portable marine radio with a range from $90-$250. You certainly cannot rely on having cell coverage in the LBL area.

Inside LBL, you'll likely get your best cell coverage with Tracfone, and it also makes an excellent back-up as it will often work when a major carrier such as Verizon has a tower out, etc.

Also, don't overlook the option of texting, even if that's to a friend to make a call for you. You can often get a text out when you cannot make a call.

The Dollar General in Dover carries the Tracfones. I always have one with me as a backup.
