Hey guys! I hunt mainly in Houston County. We have some great hunting! I have been offered the opportunity to hunt in Kentucky. My buddy has land in Ohio COunty, Muhlenburg and Todd. What should I expect? I know KY is a great state but is it that much better than our area? Just looking to see if any of yall have had any experience in those areas. THanks!

Nope, I'd stay in Houston Co. Ky non-resident license is outrageously high.
Can't speak for them areas but it's all about if you want to go or not. $260 for non resident is a lot cheaper than some other out of state license.

No way would I pass up the opportunity. All 3 counties are terrific. I was born and raised in kentucky and still take vacation for their rifle season. Even if its only the first week before TN season opens it should be worth your money. I still get frustrated with tennessee deer hunting when compared especially number wise. Granted tennessee deer hunting has improved greatly in recent years.

I've hunted in Muhlenburg Co for the past 7 years. There are big deer around, but they're not behind every tree.
Growing up hunting east TN, it's a completely different ball game in KY. I'd definitely look into it.

I would go! If nothing else, change of scenery is always good.
I have hunted KY for 17 years. I hunt in Nelson County, Bluegrass Region, Zone 1, "The Knobs".
The deer there are no different from TN deer except they are slightly larger body wise. Antler wise, its a tossup.
The terrain I hunt is very similar to the areas I hunt in TN, hills and hollows along the Rolling Fork River.

My buddy has a lease in Todd county and I am lucky enough to hunt with him once or twice a year. Totally different ballgame than hunting here in tn. His dad took a 170in non typical two years ago

I hunt Butler Co. which borders Muhlenburg and Ohio. Just like anywhere else, there are good and bad areas, but on average the size of the bucks is much better than most areas of TN. Some one said the price was outrageous for a non resident. Its cheaper than buying a tag in AL or GA and much cheaper than IL. I wouldn't miss the opportunity.

I love hunting both Tennessee and Kentucky, but if I have places in both to hunt I am hunting KY first. Nonresident license price is not bad either and I for sure don't have a ton of money to spend.
My brother and myself killed these 2 little bucks out of the same tree on the same day in 2016. The area we hunt has an unbelievable amount of hunting pressure but we almost always see many deer and at least have a chance at a nice buck.
I spend quite a bit of time in Muhlenberg county and it for sure can have great bucks.

Those are some great bucks! I think im going to get up to KY at least a few days during bow season. From what Ive seen and heard TN and KY are very similiar. Do you think TN could be equal to KY if we were on a 1 buck limit? Not wanting to start a debate, just a question.

You should hunt those counties if you get the chance. I think you have a better chance of killing a buck 150 or higher in that region of KY than in most TN counties.
If you look at recent trends, KY is at the upper end of trophies.
If you want a change of scenery, then by all means go give it a decent chance. I have hunted TN as a resident, KY, IL, OH and GA.
If I was going to hunt it, I would scout it before the woods green up in late March/ early April.
