If you had the skill and the equipment you could be doing barrels, bolts, even knives.

I did not check the Weatherby price but I would imagine something like 10 bucks per character.
 
I've seen a few Browning A-Bolts with initials and names engraved on the bolt sleeve. Looks pretty good but definitely hurts the resale value.

Agree. It's fine as long as the gun is yours but once you pass on or decided to sell, the price will drop. As long as you accept that, it's ok.
