Up until a few years ago I had never even seen a collared dove, much less killed one.
This spring we started seeing a pair around the house.

I keep hummingbird & finch feeders in the back yard and actually throw regular bird seed out in the street in front of the house to watch the birds when we are out in the garage instead of on the deck.

Anyway, we have grown quite fond of watching the pair of collared doves that have taken up residence close by.

I feel kinda sad that after this coming weekend we probably won't get to watch them anymore. :(
From a lifelong dove hunter that seems really strange to me.
I understand now why some people don't deer hunt around their house that have deer they watch on a regular basis.

Guess I am getting old & soft. :D
 
Nothing wrong with that. I too love watching wildlife,there is no way I could ever hunt near my home. Congrats on the collard doves I have never seen one! Maybe they will survive the hunters and you will get to keep watching them.
 
There's a pretty good chance that, if they have plenty to eat, etc., they won't leave. So , no worries!
 
My wife loves the doves that sit on the electric lines around the house.
No way I could ever go on a dove hunt and bring anything home.
 
Killed my first collard dove last year in a leased field in Loudon county,got that knocked off the list going to Buffalo Springs to open the season this year,had 1 of the best hunts on a WMA there several there years ago just wished some family and friends were going,got a good friend going but miss a lot of folks
