Thinking seriously about buying one in 280ai or maybe 6.5 creed for a lightweight rig. Anyone have any experience with these? Seems a Montana with a cheaper but nice factory stock.

I have one lol. Kinda wanting to try a kimber and they offer a 280ai in a factory gun under $1000.

To be honest even though I've had a few tikkas (still have one), killed alot of critters with them and they all shoot great. I'm not very impressed with the little things on them. Bolt shrouds cracking, stripped scope base threads... very frustrating.

I'm only assuming you reload .
If a little more speed is what you're after then a 280 ai would be a fun round to experiment with but in my opinion it's not worth with. A 280 will handle most anything a 280 ai will.

The new bolt bolt shrouds are metal and the factory scope bases are junk, upgrade to warne.

Im using Warne now. I never used the original rings from tikka. I'm talking about the actual threads in the receiver for mounting a rail or talleys are stripping. And that's with 20-25 in/lbs.

I've never had an issue just mounting warne rings straight onto the factory dovetail, no extra bases required.

That's what I've ended up doing with good success. Just looking for something new which is why I'm looking at kimber

Either will shoot well, so it depends on what game you're hunting. The current Kimbers are excellent quality, so don't get discouraged by what some may say about Kimber quality.

I have a 280AI Kimber Montana that is one of my favorites, although it does not have the factory barrel (PacNor barrel instead). It shoots easily 0.5 MOA using 160gr Accubonds and RL26.

Did you do the rebarrel because the original didn't shoot good? Im a reloader so I don't mind finding a load. Just worried about the so-called kimber roulette.

No, it honestly shot fairly well stock, I just have a 0.5 MOA requirement of all my rifles so I replaced it with a PacNor.

I have several Kimber Montana's and all of them were sub MOA. There is no Kimber roulette these days in my opinion, just people not capable of shooting light Rifles well.
