Killing in the Same Area

My thought is after you kill one deer from a stand that other deer know something is up. So I wait for a good one so I don't taint the area. How accurate is this? Do other deer care if another deer was killed in that spot? Will they avoid the area for a few days and then come back? What are y'alls thoughts?

The reason for this is I had alot of big bucks on camera 2 weeks ago and last week all I had was a 6pt. I saw him Saturday morning and he seems pretty feisty. Was thinking he may be ruling the area keeping others away. So I was thinking about taking him out in hopes that it would bring the big guys back but I didn't want to spook them with a recent kill. I guess rutting activity could have drawn them away but I don't think that is it since I haven't witnessed any chasing or anything.

I killed a good one yesterday, early. I waited 30 minutes and got down, tracked him, found him, too pictures, walked back to the stand and climbed in hoping to kill a doe before my buddy finished. Had a really really good deer walk by me and make several scrapes at 10:00.

I killed a 130" and a buddy of mine killed a 120 the next day out of them same stand 2 years ago.

I killed 5 out of my stand during muzz a couple years back and my dad shot 2 out of it while I wasn't hunting it.That was 7 deer in 14 days and I am sure I could have hunted it during gun and killed more deer ,but I hunted a different stand.I thought 7 out of one area was enough.btw the last one of the seven deer was the biggest.It was an 8 pointer that I took on the last day of muzz.

I question taking a buck that you might not really want to "create" a void for bigger bucks to move in. If you were getting pics of them 2 weeks ago I would think they'd still be in the same area but just haven't been in front of your camera again.

As far as shooting a deer and boogering up your area goes, I've killed multiple deer from the same stand on consecutive days. I don't think the gut pile would necessarily spook deer off but it might put them on high alert. What really screws the pooch is all the work you do dragging the deer out of the area leaving a lot of your scent behind. If I thought I had the opportunity at taking a good buck in that area I probably wouldn't shoot anything except that buck. It also depends on what kind of area you're talking about. A field shot might not do the same potential damage as a thick, close range hunting shot would.

It would be a close shot in an opening in the woods. I'm not worried about the gut pile because we take our deer far to the other side of the property where we do not hunt to gut them. I was just worried about the scent of a deer's blood spooking them. I plan on being there in the morning. Not sure if I will take the 6 if he shows up or not yet. The decision may be made if/when the opportunity is presented.

The only problem is he isn't a trophy 6 and he has a pretty rack where he could potentially be a decent buck in the future. But if his absence allows the others to show then it would be beneficial.

I don't think he's run your other bucks out of the area even if he is the baddest dog in town. That doesn't really matter. If you like him and want to kill him go for it.

I'll like him once he ages more. He will get a pass this season unless he ends up being all I see this year. Hopefully patience and colder weather will bring the big ones out.

I honestly don't think there is a solid answer. I've shot many deer off the same stand for years. Then the stand went cold and the only deer I saw would look up at the stand and get out of Dodge quickly.I do think older Nanny's does will teach their young ones danger zones . I've seen deer stand around sniffing a gut pile.I shot 3 in a couple of hours Sat. All 3 were in just about the same spot.I won't use that stand for a week or so.They are unpredictable so I try to be unpredictable also
If you want some meat shoot him. If you want a better rack hold off.

It's really according to the stand site . If it is a travel corridor then it would not hurt it at all but if it is not it might but if I was confident that there was another good one there I wouldn't hesitate to hunt it again .

X2 imo it doesn't hurt a thing. Now your scent all over everything is a different story.

My buddy killed a spike sat in my stand and I seen a nice one this morning but no shot. Killing the deer ain't what hurts u...it's tg re amount of scent and human evidence u leave in the area.

I have shot alot of deer out of the same stand, but one thing I don't do is gut one around my stand. I just don't care to do it there, I take mine to a place close to the river or pond in order to have water to clean up.JMW :grin:

Saturday evening, same stand, killed this deer at 1700 about 50 yds from where the first one fell. Had big mature does around me all evening and none ever indicated the bloody spot from the morning hunt bothered them any at all.

Had an 11 and a 8 killed out my stand in the morning... another 8 that evening. Saw several more the next couple days.

I killed a big 7 on a Friday and a big 9 the next morning same stand both dropped 15 yards apart.

This weekend my neighbor killed a nice 8 Saturday morning a doe Saturday evening and a 10 Sunday evening from the same tree.

Had a friend that gutted a buck in his shooting lane in the morning then that evening a spike came out and was eating corn that was around the guy pile like it was not even there.

Sunday I took a doe at 8:40 a.m. and a 3-1/2 year old 152# 7 point (8 pt minus broken tine) an hour and a half later from the same spot.

I killed a 130 class 10 pt Sat morning, and Monday morning, from the same stand, nearly had a chance at a dandy 8 pt as well.
