Don't hunt there and had not heard that. I personally wouldn't anyway regardless of the regs, but have to wonder how many ooopps will end up left for yote bait.

When I was assigned to Ft Campbell I investigated the shooting of a bow hunter (bow only area) by a rifle carrying poacher.
While reviewing the Check Station records I saw one deer that field dressed at 25 lbs. That, by far, was the smallest deer they had recorded.

I really don't see the need for killing a spotted fawn. There's just not enough meat to fool with even if you're a meat hunter although they do eat good. But if that's your thing then pick a spot and let her rip.

That is a great regulation and I am against the earn a buck or there should be an alternative. If you have a buck you want to shoot come by (you have not killed a doe) you can shoot him but now you have to kill 2 does.

Not for me either as on top of having VERY little meat they are also the most curious and easiest deer in the woods to kill! To each his own however.

cat...Not much meat on a squirrel, a rabbit, a duck, or a quail either but they're giving up 100% of what they have and will ever be. Not so with a spotted fawn. Like I said though, if that's your cup of tea, have at it.

People pay big bucks for beef veal. Deer veal is alot cheaper if you like that sort of thing. I got death threats a couple years ago for killing one an stupidly posting on fb if I ever kill one again which I plan not too but I am a never say never guy, I certainly won't post on fb or any other social media sights.

Thankfully my ego doesn't require peer approval for whatever I decide to kill that happens to be 100% legal (I don't hunt at Fort Campbell). And so what if they're easy to kill...why does hunting have to be so difficult? Even hunting and killing a spotted fawn requires more effort than going to Kroger, so I don't understand that argument at all. Especially when the backstraps practically melt in your mouth compared to a 6-year old doe.

I'm fortunate to hunt on high density farms, so taking a couple of fawns - whether they have spots or (gasp!) turn out to be button bucks - is really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. I do limit the killing of fawns though, and will only take them from the last weekend of September through the first weekend on January.

I've always wondered how well the victim recovered. He was from the Chattanooga area.

sometimes it aint about reaching the desired slaughter weight... if you eat veal, it probably came from a baby cow that was hung off the ground so it never got exercise so the meat is more tender. I almost always pass fawns, but will occasionally shoot one, and they do have the best meat. Also I disagree when people say they have "very little" meat. That curious deer that was so easy to kill will still make a lot of meals. Oh and they are awesome when it comes to dragging one out. Dont even need the deer cart :lol: Let most of them grow up but don't feel bad if you do shoot one. Take it home and cut it up, there is plenty of good meat on there

I will never shoot a fawn or a small buck. Just my personal preference. I want shoot anything that is not going to make me happy. A mature doe or a mature buck is what I'm after. Just personal preference.

Mr bro, it should not be difficult to know whether or not a doe has been checked in or not epecially at the Fort. You kill a buck first, then you have to kill 2 does to kill another buck the next legal opportunity you get, even if it is the next season, then you have to kill 2 does to kill a buck. Something along those lines. I do not think it is fair, especially to guys like me who kill multiple does every season, if a great buck, or a buck of a lifetime walks by and you cannot shoot it because you have not killed a doe that season but you have killed several does or bunches of does every season for many years. There should be some way to work it out.

He's doing great! Still bow hunts. Looks over the string with his left eye now. He speaks at Local wild game dinners and his message is awesome. His faith is rock solid and it shows with his messages.
