Kiddy pool

Broke down and bought a kiddy pool for my trees in pots. I need about 2-3 more but it's working. As you know the pots have drain holes and filling the pool a few inches allows them to pull water in and keep them hydrated.

Good idea. And at the 11.88 price I saw them for, not to costly. I am considering burying a kiddie pool to let my piped spring flow into but Im not sure how long it would hold up, especially if deer hooves got in it.

Good idea...I have a dozen or so On my back deck so its not to bad but still have to water every other day. I potted some up in 10 gallon pots and they last 4 or 5 days before being dry but dreading digging holes for those!!! I need an irrigation system like you setup for all the trees I planted this spring. I watered them all yesterday 10 gallons each it sucked but hopefully they'll be good till we get some rain. I put a 100lbs of mulch around each one when I planted them this spring I think that's whats saved me as they weren't wilted but I new they had to be thirsty...

I am not a tree expert so forgive me for a dumb question. Is there standing water in the pool? How do you prevent root rot if you are leaving them in standing water?

If you put to much and leave standing water, yes you will have root rot for sure. Im betting the OP didnt put much in there and is planning on all this record heat evaporating the left overs pretty quickly.

The drain plug isn't in the pool. It will hold about an inch of water before it drains out.,what little bit the trees don't draw up evaporates really quick like Steven said.

I am only putting a few inches of water in the pool. I have been monitoring the water level but I have found the pool dry in a day or so and the trees needing watering. If you think about it I am probably not adding much more than I normally would I'm just not letting it drain in the grass. With these hot temps my trees needed water, bad.

I think it's a good idea. I know next to nothing about tree irrigation so I figured I would ask. One day I am going to own a place and plant lots of trees so I am taking notes from all the pros.

I bought my kiddy pool today and put my re-potted chestnuts in it. I hope its enough to save them, as they aint looking so good.
