Had someone tell me that Kentucky passed a new law in June that basically says that if you do not live in Kentucky you MUST WEAR A HELMET.

I have looked everywhere I know to look and all I can find is that it states that you must be 21 or over to ride without a helmet and you must have proof of medical insurance to ride without one.

Anyone heard of such?

Never heard of it ....... but I am going to ask why would anyone not wear one? I don't own one and don't ride so I was only wandering.

most deaths that occur on motorcycles are not from head injuries. Its from getting legs and arms cut off or internal damage and bleeding out. In my opinion you forget about saftey the second you get on one. The odds are not in your favor when your out there on two wheels.

"Dress for the crash not the ride!" I wear all the gear when I ride, Helment, jacket with protectors, boots, gloves. I dont wear the full leathers anymore. I dont know about "forget about my safety the second you get on one", I am as safe as I can be and ride defensively as much as I can. over 80% of motorcycle accidents are caused by "the other person", because they never saw the bike. I have had people try to run me over so many times I quit counting but being able to avoid and ride ahead of yourself is key. Know your limitations and enjoy them, less they kill you!

Then WHY are you in the motorcycle forum?

MAYBE he was simply giving facts and the his opinion ..... thats why he said In my opinion ...... he entitled to do that just like you are.

I was only asking why someone would ride a bike with out a helment and he stated his opnion.

Thanks Johnny, Did'nt mean to ruffle them hen feathers. The helmet law topic caught my attention I guess because I was raised up riding dirt bikes. I have family and friends that ride Harleys and I have learned that it does not take much to get em upset talking about how dangerous they are. They all say that " I just hope it kills me because I don't want to be a burden on my family or in a nursing home somewhere". I saw a co-worker of mine a few years back hit two brothers broadside on a streetbike they were on, they both were wearing short pants. When I got to them one was trying to talk but his mouth had what looked like hamburger meat hanging out and the other was not saying a word if you know what I mean.

The way i figure is you gotta go sometime.. and when it's your turn.. what can i say.. I live in Pa. and we have no helmet law here either..other then you got to be 21..yada..yada..I lived in Tn for 4 years and in that time had 4 of your Red wasps hit and go into my helmet.. I am very allergic to bee stings.. Up here they hit and keep going on their way.. But the main reason i wear no helmet is freedom.. I grew up not wearing helmets then for a long time we were made to.. I think it should be YOUR right to decide if you want to wear one or not..Pa's insurance did not go up at all when No helmets took effect..it always ticked me off that when i was 18 the Government did not give two rips about weather i lived or died and sent me to Vietnam.. but then when i came home was made to wear a helmet!! Just made no sense to me..I have now been back up here for a bit over 1 and half years and have yet to put a helmet on.. matter of fact i am not even sure i know where it is...Ride Free!!

If your kids ever go down you mmay change your mind..........

It aint the experience its the idiot that turns left in front of you or rear ends you. I want to be around to teach my kids the things they need to learn in life. Wearing a helment is no garuntee, but it helps.

nope i am real partial to the laws the require them to be 21
personally i would like it to be 25
by that age they would have a lil experience

Here in Pa. you can ride helmet less at the age of 18 but you must have passed a Motorcycle Safety course.. Which i think that everyone who rides should take any way.. I have taken it five different times myself all the way thru the advanced course.. Every time i have taken it i learn something new.. but mostly the reason i take it is because i get 25% off my insurance..When my wife wanted to learn how to ride i MADE her take the course first.. saved a whole lot of grief on my part teaching her..
