Planted March 4th from last year's leftovers, they got nipped by frost once, side dressed about 3 weeks ago. Haven't bought seed potatoes in maybe 10 yrs.

That's a pretty crop of potatoes. I planted mine February 28th so I didn't beat you by much. Also got one light frost.

My dad used to grow a couple acres of cobblers for sale don't remember where they went, but there used to be a "tater" house on a railroad siding. Haven't seen a patch like yours since the 50's. What do you hill them with ? We had an A farmal with the belly mount cultivators and rear sweeps.

I just use a 3 point 1 row cultivator as well. I put sweeps in the inside tines and angle them to throw dirt toward the plant.

You must have a steady hand, I'd let my mind wander and plow about half of them up using the rear mount. Looks like you don't wobble!

This year 6-12-12 at planting side dressed with triple 13. Not very scientific just what I had on hand.

I use 12 bags of triple 19 and 4 bags of urea per acre.

6 bags 19 at emergence
6 bags 19 3 weeks later
4 bags Urea at 16"
Total application 210-115-115 basically. 200-300 lbs nitrogen needed for maximum yield.

Hilled for last time yesterday
Bifenthrin and imocloprid in furrow at planting controls wire worms and potato beetles entire season. Permethrin for beetles after emergence and Quadris fungicide.

I don't plant any taters, but my step dad did when he was living. Other than using a tiller, it was all hand work. Laying the rows off, spraying the rows with macho, placing taters, fertilizer between each tater. Hill them by hand with a hoe. We had a tater plow in the later years, but they were mostly dug with a tater fork or shovel. Wished I'd paid more attention as a kid.

I did turn under a cover crop of purple tops, kale , mustard, rape and some crimson. Don't spray for some reason haven't seen a potato bug in a couple of years. Used to have them bad would even get on tomatoes. Forgot put compost in the furrow after I stirred in the fertilizer. Just try to raise enough for family and some to replant. Been saying for years this is the last crop, but when the days start getting longer here I go again.

Started on a few red norland today. Most are starting to bloom. If it stays cool and wet gonna be a good haul.
