I haven't duck hunted in several years and when I did it wasn't but for a couple of years. Anyhoo, most of the ducks killed then and most of the pics I've seen of dead ducks since have been mostly greenheads. Just looking at the pics on here so far this year and it seems like there are very few of them. Is that the case or are there just more ducks of a variety now?
 
Mallards are one of the most hearty ducks and thus they migrate later than everything else.
Ducks haven't gotten here yet, thus the appearance of the "lack" of greenheads.
 
There's some around.

It has been a very dry season and habitat conditions have been pretty poor across the mid south. Water levels are down. Fields that can be pumped are holding birds but bird counts are well below the long term averages for this time of year. With more rain on the way and snow cover up north we will see an increase of mallards.
