In the past I've always held off putting on the fertilizer until the plants actually started sprouting. I had some notion that it was best to let the plant get started on its own before jacking things up with a dose of fertilizer.

We just planted Saturday, and now there is a ton of rain on the way by this weekend.

Should I go ahead and broadcast fertilizer this week?

what rain? watch the forecast!!!! it don't look good!

I suspect we may have different forecasts, brother!

Thanks for the input guys. Come Thursday, a-fertilizin' I will go!

Fertilize at the same time you plant the seed. If you wait and your plants come up and you fertilize you may burn and kill your plants. I try to plant when there is some rain in the forcast a day or two after planting.

It can be done both ways but best to time it with the rain, prevents most burn opportunities..........Plants need the water to process the fertilizer faster and to help get the fertilizer into the soil so it can.
