Just Announced: Stevens 334 — Thoughts?

I just saw where Savage announced a new rifle coming out under the Stevens label: the Stevens 334. It looks like it has some features of the Ruger American.

I'm not that familiar with Stevens, but this thing looks pretty! Think it will be any good?

Yeah looks like a decent rifle with nice features…if it has the Savage accuracy it will be a winner…

The first thing that jumped out at me was no barrel nut. The mention of Turkish walnut stock screams import. A very brief Google search turned up...a new rifle and new shotgun. According to someone on savage shooters..both are imported from Turkey and given the savage name (not uncommon for manufacturers to do this). I would want to know who the manufacturer is...and what parts availability was like....if they had any support in the US. That said, it's not a bad looking rifle. I would just want more info before I invested my money.

It could turn out to be a decent rifle. At least it's got a walnut stock. Kinda refreshing to see.

As a gunsmith, I can confidently say that Turkish guns are either hit or miss. That thick recoil pad will be a shirt catching sumbitch as well.

I'm always glad to see an American Firearms Company doing well and adding product. But not when they rebadge a foreign made gun and try to pass it off as theirs; that's just wrong. But many of them have done it at one time or another.
