My cousin in Jackson Mississippi was climbing up a 15ft ladder stand yesterday when the straps broke. He fell flat on his back and broke it then the stand came down on him. Considering the surcumstances he is lucky he isn't paralized. He has two broken bones in his back but did not have any major nerve damage. He will be laid up for up to three months. Please pray for a fast recovery and please make sure you check those stands before climbing up or in them. Good luck this year and BE SAFE!!

Hate that for your cousin. I check all my stands in August. Found 2 this year where one strap had broke. I use 2 for that reason but still anything can happen.

Hope he fully recovers from it.

I'm certainly sorry for your cousin, and wish him a speedy and full recovery.

That is why I add a chain and turnbuckle to all of my ladder stands. It costs about $10-11 to add it on, but is worth it in peace of mind. In areas where stand sabatoge is a real possibility, I try to do some pulling and shaking before climbing.

There is no sure fix.
