Pool noodles cut about 8 inches and a piece of PVC shoved thru the side. He won't hold it down more than 5 seconds.
 
Matt, we throw away about 25-30 one gallon plastic ingredient jugs a day. If you think they will work let me know.
 
we cut our noodles a foot long.. i like them better than plastic jugs.. the line wraps around better and you have a place to bury the hook to keep everything nice and tidy when your done
 
I think I have 2 or 3 garbage bags full of empty ones. My wife was using them to make homemade laundry detergent and decided to switch routes.

normally i go 6-8 or 10 feet.. depending on where im dropping them.. its good to have them at different depths to see which ones do best..

I do the same thing. I also rol them up and keep them in a Rubbermaid container with lid for easy stow and carry capabilities. I also use different colors to indicate different depths.
 
Noodles are the way to go, I don't use any pvc, and have 20" noodles just a whole wire clothes hanger and bend the wire at the end of the noodle then tape the bent end down. the fishing line always gets tangled when using jugs.
 
Noodles are great... easy to wrap line and store, as mentioned. However the one downside to jugs is wind. If it is windy they get blown around and scattered more easily.

I am partial to using one-quart motor oil jugs. I've caught cats up to 25 lbs. with them... but I have had some larger fish take them down and disappear.

But if you stop by your neighborhood quick change oil place, they normally have tons of one-quart motor oil jugs and are happy to let you dig them out of the trash. I know. :grin:

You can wrap line and stick hook in plastic lids, and the jugs store perfectly in plastic milk crates.
