Just about all fish go in a feedin frenzy this time of year in anticipation of winter. But they can be hard to locate and pinpoint due to the weather conditions and water levels being up or down in a such hurry, I have jugged fished the Mississippi River in the fall in Oct quite a few times. Depending on what cat your after i would bait and fish accordingly, Blue's and channels we have caught on sand bar flats or mud bars or mud flats as well. but There was some kind of hole close by, During the summer the hit the deep holes and pretty much stay there until night. so right at dawn or dusk will be the best times I would generally try to fish about a foot to 2 feet off the bottom, but you may have to adjust as I have caught suspending cats as well. If your after yellow cats or flat heads LIVE BAIT!!!! and i would generally follow the same guidlines but stick more to woody cover on the around caving banks or log jams. thats just river talk with current and all that stuff, I have never fished lakes much for Whisker lips.
