Jug Fishing at Pickwick

I'm planning on jug fishing for catfish at Pickwick lake this week. I have never fished here before and have never fished with jugs before. Does anyone have any pointers for me such as bait to use, depth to fish? Any advice would be appreciated.

Cut gill on good size circle hooks set a few arm lengths of line deep. I use para cord as line which works well for me. Good luck

Live bream the bigger the better. I use a trot line clip on a 12"drop so I can easily adjust the depth and put a weight on the end of the main line to prevent drifting into shallow water. Parachute cord is great for a main line. I prefer big J hooks 8/0 or 10/0.

On lake side I run about 15' with cut skipjack or bluegill. I fish the rock bluff right around the big bend from the state park. You can either drop them off at the cove at Bryson Branch if they are heavily generating, or just pick a spot 100'-200' on the bluff to string them out if the are not. I haven't ever fished below the dam, usually catch more than enough on that wall.

Sorry I can't help you much that far down river. I've fished mostly below Wilson Dam and in the Barge Canal leading to the Dam. I had a friend who jug fished along Koger Island just past the Natchez Trace bridge going up the river from where you will be. I did pretty good fishing the channel along the Island. You might want to check with someone down there because the river may still be high. I know it is here,if they are still spilling water at Wilson & Pickwick it will have a lot of current which could cause you to hang up your jugs a lot on trees & rocks causing them to sink. You could go across the river on the Al. side in some of the hollows just down stream from Waterloo. Union & Johnny Hollow as well as Panther Creek slough's could be a good place to start. I've known guys to catch them in those areas in the past.
