Does anybody here use one of the jerky guns you can buy to shoot ground meat in to strips or snack sticks? I've been looking at them and it seems like a great idea but I thought i'd check on here and see if anybody had any experience with them. Thanks!

yep its the easiest and best way i have found to make jerky,I have the cheap 1 from some where most of the housing is plastic, it works very well and is easy to load and clean ,flat strips or stick shape

I use one and have found my kids like the jerky significantly better... hence they can bite and chew the jerky better cause it's softer.
I use one that I bought on sale at Gander Mountain, well worth the price to get a good one.
Cabelas and GM always run sales this time of year.

this is the one I have, got it at half price last year.

Ok sounds good guys. thanks for the replies. I have a bass pro gift card the wife got me for Vday so I'll probably go pick one up there. I'll let ya know how it goes.

I know somebody has to make the guns for bass pro to put their name on i'm thinking it is Weston. Look at how much they look alike.

You'll like it.

Not to sound insulting to anyone at all, but when I'm in certain areas many people won't eat whole muscle jerky because of the condition of their teeth. They really enjoy ground meat jerky.

haha. i hope so. i bought the one at bass pro yesterday and i got a pack of the high mountain original jerky seasoning. i've got 1.5 lbs of meat marinating in the fridge now and plan on making a batch tonight. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

The jerky turned out pretty good. Had a real good taste and was really easy to shoot into strips with the gun. Definitely a good purchase. I'll be making a couple more batches this weekend. The batch I made last night has already been devoured by my buddies here at work.

Did you use the jerky cure? No need if you are eatting it that fast.
Here a recipe that I got from Poser on this forum.

I never use the cure. Most of my jerky is gone withing a few weeks but some in a plastic box lasted over a year, no sign of mold. I think the cure adds a flavor that I do not like.
