Got my buck back from last year and he cut out the jawbone for me. Still has meat attached and not cleaned. Can someone save me some time of looking for my book and tell me again the steps you take to clean them? All i can remember is clean the meat off and soak in peroxide or something like that. I know some bleach also. Do both side need to be seperated or does it matter?

My first time ever and i'm actually gonna start trying to keep them off the bucks i have mounted. Appreciate the help!!

I boil mine and then scrape them clean. I save everyjawbone from a deer over two years that I shoot. Makes a great reference when comparing jawbones from the same area.

Don't use bleach or peroxide!! I've seen this done and can't figure out why....it doesn't take the meat off, and bleachs the dentine making it harder to accurately age the jawbone.

Throw up some pics of your bucks jawbone.

THANKS guys. It worked great. I think it looks pretty good for my first time. Here are some pics...

Here is the boiling party,.. boiling jawbone with potatoes and corn over a open flame!!

When compared to the chart,.. the narrow line of dentine begins on the 5th molar and is equal to the 6th molar,.. the 4th is wider than the 5th,... so he was 3.5 if i'm doing it correctly. If thats the case, then that confirms my feelng he was 3.5 by body structure and a 08 photo i had of him at 2.5 y.o.
