Keep in mind that tooth wear can be influenced by many factors, and it gives a minimum age. If you want to know for sure, you can send the teeth off for cementum annuli analysis. Keep in mind that there is still error associated with that technique, but it would give you a second estimate.

2.5 on all of them but the pic of the deer makes me think he was a bit older... Tooth wear isn't absolute anyway so I'd say 3.5 on that fat buck

Wow, I actually guessed what the majority thought. I may be gettingbetter at jaw aging after all. The last one looks a little bit older from the pic of his body but I still wouldn't say any more than 3.5. Nice deer though.

I agree that upon initial inspection, all look 2 1/2, personally, I would age #1 as 3 1/2. And I would do so for two reasons. First, the tips of the 4th tooth are definitely worn down. Look at how sharp the tips of 5th and 6th teeth are in comparison. Second, the amount of wear on the first three teeth. If that buck is 2 1/2, those teeth would have been exposed for less than a year, and that's a lot of wear for a year's time.

By following the standardized rules of aging by tooth wear, all of the jawbones would fit into the 2 1/2 age category. But in my opinion, deer #1 is older than the other two deer.

Thanks for the input fellars. Fat deer was jawbone #2. #1 was a co-workers deer that i dont have a picture of. I was pretty sure #3 was a 2.5 when i shot him...and that was fine with me.
