First off, let me say I'm not good at this because I haven't studied it much. But I'm going to throw out 2.5?

At least 3.5. The oldest molar is 50% dentyne which would indicate 3.5, the next oldest molar is not. According to the Servinghouse method of TWR, the wear pattern would say he is at least 3.5. The only way to know if he is older is to send off the incisors for CA.

Teeth suggest 3.5, which typically means AT LEAST 3.5. So 3.5, with possibility of being 4.5. He would be recorded as 3.5 in most records, logs, etc. Good job on cleaning up the teeth and taking top and side view pics. The only thing that would've been better is to have had both jaw bones, as some disagree with the other, from the same deer. Congrats on your deer.

I thought 2.5 at first but the premolars all look more worn down than they should be, and first molar is showing some good wear... it's a tough one, but overall it looks too worn to be 2.5 and the side view definitely helps

I'm gonna say 2.5. Really need to see how worn that 3rd crown on the 3rd molar is worn but looks like the jaw was cut off after the 1st crown?? That dentine is borderline as thick all the way around the 1st molar as the enamel..

There isn't really that much wear on the premolars or the first molar. The only way I'd consider thinking about calling that deer 3.5yo is if it was killed somewhere with a really late rut (Jan-Feb) like can be seen in parts of MS and AL. That being said, he very well may be 3.5 as previous posters have stated. It really is a 'best guess' past 2.5yo. But going strictly by the tooth aging method and taking into account the deer was killed in TN, 90% of your biologists are going to call it 2.5.

I have been seeing this buck for 4 years now. He has always been a 6pt. i don't know how old he was when he i first seen him.I all most shot him last year but stopped hoping he might have more points this year.This buck was a pasture buck the only woods were wood lines and a few small patches of woods around.He would only show up the first week of muzzle loader every year then i wouldn't see him again until the next season .Well the second evening of muzzle loader season i got in the field were i had been seeing a few deer .Well at 4:00 he comes out in the same spot that he always has.But this year he looked a lot bigger than last year.I shot him at 40 yards he ran maybe 50 yards.He field dressed over 200 pounds had a 24in neck and his bases was close to 7in.The game warden looked at his teeth and said it looked to be 4 1/2 maybe 5 but said that was just guessing.He said 3 1\2 or older deer the only way to find out age is to send the teeth off.And yes it is possible i got this deer mixed up with a different deer but i don't think so. The guy that aged him said it was just a guessing game on aging deer by there teeth over 3 years old.

Wife killed a 205 lb 7 point, 19 inch spread.

TWRA aged teeth at 2.5 - I posted pics here and it was a clear 2.5 consensus.

But there was clearly no way this was a 2.5 yo deer so I sent teeth off for CA testing and came back 4.5.

That's happened twice.

Not surprised at all, as TRW method is only a guaranteed minimum.
