Jaw age?

Looking for your expert opinion on how old this deer was. Have never seen wear like this before. The middle teeth are worn down to almost nothing, both sides, quite evenly.

Strange for sure. Based on other teeth it's at least 4.5 but likely not older than 5.5. Just my guess

The taxi told me in his opinion that it was 5.5 +. Just wanting a broad analysis as I have no idea how to age deer from tooth wear.

Interesting wear for sure. Kinda hard to see dentine from above but id guess 4.5 excluding the bad teeth. Once again im very new to this and not an expert but this is a chart I found on google for this area. Hope it helps

The first molar wear is from abnormal wear on that tooth. If the other two molars showed that type of wear, then it would indicate 5.5+.

Any time a deer displays unusual wear patterns on one tooth, you have to question if the rest of the observable wear is also out of line from "normal." If they're putting extra pressure on one spot in their jaw, are they putting less pressure than normal in other areas?

But based on the other teeth, 4 1/2.

Strange thing is, that's the 4th jawbone I've seen this year with that exact same abnormal wear pattern. I've seen it in the past, but not with the frequency I'm seeing this year.

Again, that weird matching pattern is what I'm seeing. Crazy really.

Maybe the acorns were extra hard this year!

I'm not sure I agree with the diagram you posted. In the posted diagram, it appears to be suggesting that if the dentine is clearly visible on a tooth, that is enough wear to give the deer that tooth's age. Yet in the Severinghaus Tooth-Wear Aging process, the dentine must be wider than the white enamel before the deer is given that tooth's wear age.
