what i thought was a problem with my 40 rd. magazines turns out to be a rifle problem. all mags functioned fine in others' rifles. ejection seems fine but it don't chamber the next round. sometimes jamming on every shot, sometimes after 2 or 3 shots. any ideas what the problem may be?
 
Might be in your recoil spring possibly? Have you taken your recoil spring out and cleaned it lately? Im just guessing,I really have no idea.
 
what kind of rifle? do other mags function in that rifle or do all mags do the same thing? if its just the 40r then its a problem between the 2 ,look at the angle that the rounds lay at between 2 that are loaded up

it's an AR. same results with all mags.
 
May be short stroking. How many rounds thru the weapon since gas tube cleaned/chamber/bolt cleaned?

less than 1000. the symptoms are that it is shortstroking as it is catching the next round about half way up the casing.

disassembly,cleaning and inspection revealed 2 loose screws on the top of the bolt. hopefully that was it.

Are you talking about the 2 screws on the BCG that hold the gas key on? If so, you may want to get them properly staked and they shouldn't come unscrewed.

yeah, that's them.
 
contacted the manufacturer and he said factory rifles are staked and wanted the serial number. i am not sure if mine is factory or a build as i bought it from an individual that deals with both. i guess i'll find out.
 
That's the bad thing with AR's and other assault weapons. There is so many company's building them and people buying just pieces and slapping them together. AR's are not all that complicated if you have the right tools. But most guys slapping one together in the garage rarely has the right tools.
 
Sounds like the gas block is not aligned over the barrle's gas port. Hopefully you fixed it by tightening down the carrier key as that is a much easier fix

i don't know.
i will say in his defense that this guy has built numerous rifles and knows what he is doing. i have known him for over 30 years. i believe he just had too many irons in the fire at the time(personal matters) and i was bugging him about getting me a rifle.
