Killed a double beard last year one beard was 5 inches long and the other was 3 1/2inches long. Pasted on the longer bearded bird (10 inches) because I wanted the strutter. The beards came out at the top of the feather line, right below the waddles. The beards were side by side not in the normal above below position.
 
Never killed a jake. I dont have anything against anybody that wants to shoot one, I have just found it to not be too much of a challenge the places that I hunt.

I have only hunted one year (last year) and I killed my first long beard. I could have killed a jake at 25 yards later on in the season and passed. I wish I would have smoked him.
 
I will not shoot jakes, period. I come from a state where they are illegal, and have zero desire to kill them. IMO, they are for newcomers and kids to harvest, folks who have a few LB's under their belt should be patient. However, if someone feels like killing them, then that is their personal choice.
 
jakes eat good....not a tough........besides i cant eat the beards......thats the only reason i shoot them.......i would rather hear the gobble anyways.......but if one comes in range hes dead....but i have no problem shooting one.
 
I hunt a lot of public land. Jakes can be just as tough to kill as longbeards. I kill either. Love to eat that fried turkey.
 
I have, and might again if I feel like it.

I'd much rather kill a gobbling jake that knows how to play the game; than a sneaky, hush-mouthed 2 yr old that tries to slip in.
 
I've passed on some and I've shot one.....I don't know what I'd do until I do it. :grin:

I prefer a longbeard, but I'll take what I can get sometimes. I just try to enjoy the hunt and don't worry about the little stuff. Heck, if a jake comes in gobbling and you lose your excitement because he doesn't have a 10" beard then you may need to find a more exiting hobby like skydiving or something. :D
 
Our lease has restrictions on deer, but there are none on turkey's. So in other words, if it's got a beard, it may go down. Depends on how the season is going.
 
I'm totally content letting jakes walk.
I'd rather meet up with them again a year or two later.

You'd also be surprised how many times I've let a jake walk, only to kill a LB a few minutes or couple hours later. To each their own, but to me, it just increases my opportunity at a LB to pass up a jake, while enjoying more turkey hunting in the meantime.
 
I turkey hunt myself.If I set up on a bird that's gobblin,I call,he comes,I shoot.It's all about the hunt for me.Don't get me wrong,I'd rather it be a LB.But I really like to kill 'em ;)
