I would say no by the look of those VERY old legs, spurs. In fact, that me be the oldest turkey I ever seen killed. DO you have some more full body pics?

Definately no jake. those legs do look weird, almost like somethign was wrong with.

Nope. Not definitely not a jake. The legs look diseased which probably explains the short beard. When they get sick, often there will be a period during which melanin isn't produced in the beard. Melanin is what makes it black, but it also strengthens it. The short term lack causes the beard to be weak and brittle in a small area, and it breaks off (often called "beard rot").

19lbs isn't really "only" 19lbs. I would say that to be average or maybe a little under. No way to tell how old he was with the broken off spurs. But I would say 3 or more.

Do you have a closeup of the head. It may just be in a shadow, but it also looks strange and somewhat dark colored and diseased to me. If so, you may want to call the TWRA biologist. They would probably be interested.

I am sure that it is still good. There may not even be anything wrong with it, I just thought the legs looked weird.

Is his fan completely filled out? That is another way to tell if it is a jake...basically are the center tail feathers longer than the rest.

Beard rot and looks like fungus on the legs....I'd check with the state biologist and see if they want to do a necropsy.

Then I assume he is not a jake, buddy of mine killed one like that last year. 1" spurs, full fan, and the beard was thick as all get out but only a couple inches long.
