it's cheap to run my boat

Just realized how cheap it is running my boat, not including gas in the truck to pull the boat. I am putting ethanol free gas in my tank for my 5 horse B&S air cooled outboard even though it is just a lawnmower motor. today I topped off the 3 gallon tank after last week's trip. ethanol free gas was 3.99/gal and I paid $4.17 to refill the tank. Basically ran the boat over 25 miles (measured) over the course of a whole day, mostly at full throttle, for a gallon of gas, ain't bad. Pushes my boat somewhere in the 10-12 mph range which aint bad for a small tin. Some day I may get a motor that will put my boat on a full plane, but I will run this B&S motor as long as it runs and it does the job great. Anyone else got a small tin boat and motor?

Deffinately cheaper than my merc 175 and u prob catchin just as many fish the way my luck been going!

I get somewhere around 5 miles to the gallon running around 35 or 40 mph. When you add in the oil it gets costly. Enjoy it while you can. No way I would want a gas bill for running 60 or 70 up the lake.

I have 4 stroke 150 Yamaha,it does great,and gets me where I wanna go pretty quick,love it,quiet,easy on gas.Will run about 45 or so,nice when you wanna move a couple miles.

it doesn't get you 25 miles to the gallon though does it? Whatever suits you. I've already gone more than a couple miles today... Fishing for rockfish at the moment, but to say I've caught fish I have already caught two nice carp today, do you want the pics of them? :)

I have a 14' Tracker Topper with a 15 HP Yamaha 2 stroke and a 6 gallon fuel tank. Its a nice setup for river fishing or in coves on the lake. It will run right at 30 MPH with me in it and 24 MPH with 2 people and hunting gear verified by GPS. I have run a mile upriver from the I-75 bridge in Loudon all the way to Kingston and back using 3.5 gallons of gas while fishing . That's the furthest I have run and I have no idea how far that is. I can fish the Clinch river around 6 different days running up river and then floating downstream all day before needing to fill up again. It's nice having a motor that can get you where you want to go without spending a bunch of money on gas.

I just sold a rig similar to yours, had a six horse Johnson and did great! You better hang on to that Briggs, they are GREAT little engines. I just got to have a bigger boat to take my kids with me...

Yeah Catman I have an Optimax motor. It will push my boat 45 or so with me and 42 or 43 with 2 guys by GPS. It's not but a 90 on the Lowe HP model in 17 foot. It gets as good of gas mileage as the 50 Mercury I had on the other boat.

small tin? dang I just saw two tin boats today, one with a 115 and one with a 140 and they both were pretty huge for a jon boat by my standards... big and wide, and they both went as shallow as my skinny 14 ft tin boat.

Na,dont need to see any pics of carp.Sometimes in life,comfort and usability are more important than how cheap you can get by with.Ive fished in some storms at Dale Hollow,catching fish,and was very glad I was in a Bass Boat,a small john boat would have been very unpleasant.

Dont know about mileage,never seen a boat with an odometer on it,but it does very well.

is it a flat bottom? I saw a boat the other day with a 140 horse and the boat was a big and wide flat bottom, he said it would run in 1.5 ft of water with the motor trimmed up and the boat itself draft only 8 inches. Oh and that motor at low speeds was quieter than my little 5 horse :D

I have done all of the above except the cane poles.... one time I caught a load of worms and put one on the hook, sight casted to and caught a 6 lb buffalo... of course you probably don't even consider that a real fish, because it's not an almighty bass....

No its not a flat bottom. It is a Delta Pad with a 6 degree deadrise. It also has lifting/turning strakes and a reverse chine. It drafts 7-8 inches of water and easily runs in 4 inches.

I grew up wading and floating small rivers and creeks. The Harpeth, Swan, Piney, Buffalo and Lick creek. I have done my share of dragging. I'm no good at it anymore. I prefer to drive to my spots now. Its easier on a tired back.

they don't interest me much either, because they don't bite much and hardly fight at all. I've seen uglier fish too. But it is rewarding to have a buffalo bite your bait or lure because it usually takes a lot of effort. I pretty much ignore them except for the fly south carp tourney.

hey if you ever are not having luck with the smallies and felt like wasting your time catching a carp I would gladly show you how... They aint pretty but they are very smart fish and fight like a freight train
