The older I get, the more mindful I have to be of my time. I think it will be a waste of time with highs past 90 this weekend. My cell cams aren't showing much action during daylight. I'm going to punt and wait till next weekend and make the wife and kids happy before the good hunting starts. Good luck to all who go.
 
I didn't go during the velvet hunt, so am getting out there tomorrow even though it will be warmer this weekend! Still, need to hunt, been too long of a wait. Planning to hunt tomorrow evening and then again Sunday morning before heading back home.
 
I have to be mindful as well, but luckily the wife is headed out of town for a bachelorette party this weekend and taking our daughter to the grandparents on the way. My weekend is free, but not sure how much I will hunt. Was hoping to get seed out, but there is STILL NO RAIN FORECASTED. This is getting ridiculous.
 
I'm with you coach...it's been too long and I need to be in a tree...for my mind mostly. If all I get to do is sit in God's great outdoors and look at trees....that's a good weekend. Heck...never know when those big boys with antlers want to take a mid-day stroll. (THWACK) Good luck guys.

and yes Deerman, I agree...this is kinda ridiculous.
 
One of the biggest bucks that I ever saw from a tree was opening morning a few years ago and the temps were climbing to the 90's.

The rest of the story was a mistake on my part..... :rotf:
 
My kids are in college. My wife and I celebrate our 22nd anniversary today. I spent most of that time around the house doing stuff with/for her and the kids. We agree that the 4 months of the year that I hunt now was prepaid in the first 20 years of our marriage. I didn't miss a soccer or basketball game, choir performance, or play. It's my time!

I will be out in the morning. Hopefully a doe strolls by early. Need some steaks. I will take the atv, park about 200 yards from the tree and ease in. I'll probably still be dripping buckets.

Between CWD, heat and a conflict with a rifle match, I won't be in a tree this morning. But, I'll get there sometime soon. I hunted once during the velvet hunt and it was cooler than it will be today. I woke up early today too. My body must know that deer season is finally here. Good luck guys and stay safe.

Not sure how many of you went out over the weekend or the last couple of days, but I got in Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. I did actually see a deer - well, at least it's rear end and tail as it bounded off Sunday morning just as I got to where I would climb my tree. However, that was not the greatest excitement of the trip. ON my walk in Saturday, as I was easing along and looking for acorns, I heard leaves moving to my right and sure enough, there he was, Mr. No Shoulders! A good sized copperhead! Couldn't get him to move on and really had nothing to kill him with unless I wanted to take my chances with a stick. I eased around him and go into my stand. The next morning, my buddy walked upon a nice rattler in at the head of one of his "plots". Then, as he checked his cameras upon leaving, he has a a great video of a giant black bear acting like Balou from The Jungle Book. I'm going to be out the country with my wife for our 30th anniversary through mid-week next week but the temps are looking much better! Good luck to all of you guys!
