Stock ruger 10/22. 3-9x32 Bushnell scope.
50 yds off leadsled and solid bench. light wind 5mph toward shooter.

Looks like about a 2" group. Any suggestions to tightening this up or is that about what I can expect from a stock 10/22 ?

What will give me the most improvement for the least amount of money?

with the ammo you're using that's probably about right.
my 10/22 is a little modified and using a fixed 6x scope.

For accuracy try this this stuff. They are acually the same so which ever you find the better deal on.
Remember each rifle is different so they may not work as good for you.

From what i can tell these 2 options are probably going to give the best accuracy for the money, but again each gun is different.


I have not had great luck with federal auto match, eley sport purple box, or old remington golden bullets.

This is a 100yd target using a bipod and rear bag.
Bottom left is SK and center is cheap stuff.
This was my first attempt with the SK, it was rushed and had a 4 yr old jumping around in the truck bed (was using tail gate as a bench). i'm hoping to try it again this weekend.
I really think under 1" groups at 100yd is obtainable.

I think that gun needs some more experimenting. Whatever was shot out of it need not EVER be put in it again!

it wasn't that bad, but yea could be better.
 
Two inch group at 50 yards is very bad with a scoped rifle. If you try a few different kinds of ammo and it doesn't get better you should sell it.
 
You can tighten it up quit a bit better. When I got mine a few years back I bought 1 box of 10 or so different manufactures and found out which ones mine liked.

For hunting small game I get excellent results with Remington Golden bullets.
 
Probably needs a good cleaning too.

How many rounds can you shoot before accuracy falls off and you have to clean?

My factory 10 rd magazine is jamming up. Anybody know how to pull one apart to clean it?

I am spoiled by my CZ rimfire rifles,,they will shoot MOA easy,,1/2 inch and less at 50 yards,,a lot less with good ammo,,

start with CCI Standard Velocity and Federal Automatch and work your way up in ammo price till you get results you like,,when you get into SK and Wolf at 9-10$ a hundred and up in price you should see major improvements,,

I could not live with a 4 MOA 22 rifle,,but I bet it does better cleaned and with ammo it likes,
 
Trade it for a Marlin Model 60. I can kill groundhogs all day long at 100 using CCI in my Marlin.
 
Been thinking about it and it probably has 500+ rounds through it since its last good cleaning.

Forgot about a goof off session I had last summer where we sat on the porch and plinked about 2-300 rounds. Sprayed it out with bore blaster but didn't use a quality solvent and brush.

CB-longs have a LOT of wax on them and seem to gunk up a gun fast.

Ill give it a good scrubbing and test again. If it doesn't get better I might have to take steps.

Not looking for a match rifle, just a farm gun to keep varmints out of the garden but I need better than 2" @ 50yds.
 
I would say a good cleaning will make alot of difference.
As most have said, different round shoot differet, but you knew that too.

I have a few 10/22's and my "target" model I carried to Paducah Shooter Supply and had the guy there do a trigger job on it.
He charged me $30 and it made alot of difference too.

In a nutshell, yes you can get it quite a bit better than 2" groups.
Man's and my other 10/22's can pick off gumballs from the top of a tree with ease. This is just leaning against a porch post or tree and shooting.
 
Just pulled mag apart and cleaned it. Didn't seem that dirty but WOW! what a difference it made.

Smoooooooooooth as butter now.

Im sure the barrel is gunked up worse. Going to make one of those weed eater line bore snakes to clean the pipe.

ya was hoping to get the 10/22 out again tomorrow to play at 200-300yds but weather is saying otherwise.
intellicast said high of 29 and windy last i check. blaaaaa! guess i'll have to find another excuse not to work on taxes.
 
me and my buddy shot his last summer his first five shots looked more like one shot if they couldn't be covered with a dime I would be suprised
I would expect better results
