I arrive at my hunting spot, park, get out, begin to get my hunting gear on and start to hear footsteps across the way.
I stop, pull out my rifle and prepare for coyotes.
The noises get closer
I raise up, ready.
It's the neighbors blood hound [emoji49]

Must be a mix between a Great Dane and a bloodhound cause he's enormous.

Thankfully, he's a pleasant dog and proceeds to lick my hand.

Then a second dog come up...awesome. I love dogs but not while I'm deer hunting.

Now I'm thinking, if there were deer in this non-pressured land, they aren't anywhere near these dogs!

Is there any point in heading to my stand? Surely they'll just follow me, which would effectively ruin the hunt

Whoop em, throw rocks at them. Let them know they are not wanted there. They should leave you alone. I'd still hunt.

The deer won't leave the area unless they are actually chased by the dogs. Those dogs may not be deer chasing dogs.
I've even seen a doe chase my dog away from her fawn this summer. She wasn't messing around.

I was hunting Wednesday morning on public land and when it got light I heard the commotion and knew it sounded bigger than squirrels or birds in the thickets. Stand with my bow and see two hound dogs. I could still see where the grass was disturbed by my foot steps and these two dogs were on top of my tracks. Had GPS collars on and were apparently squirrel/rabbit dogs. Got to the base of my tree and just howled forever. I hooked my bow rope to my bow sling and shook it down and they finally got off my tree but commenced to chasing rabbits zig zagging back and forth, so I gave up.

Didn't get mad though. I saw the sunrise from a tree on a Wednesday and the small game hunters paid as much for that land as I did.

Last year I had a relative's dog follow me into the woods. No getting rid of it, so I hunted from the ground with it asleep in front of me. Fired right over it's head and shot a nice buck. All I saw a black streak and the dog was GONE. Yesterday I had a pack of domestic dogs playing on the hillside across from me. Not long after they left two deer came in on the same trail.

Where i grew up we had about 30 acres behind our house that the neighbor let us hunt on. Got in the blind one morning and heard something running from the direction i walked in. Ended up being my chocolate lab. No way i was walking it back to the house so i just picked him up and walked him up the ladder and into the blind. He slept all morning lol.

Last year I asked an in-law if I could hunt one of his stands. He said sure.

I drove 1.75 hrs and climbed into the stand. I had been in the stand for probably 10 mins when I heard a dog barking near by followed by a couple of shots. As the minutes clicked on, the same dog would bark followed by shots but this time closer. Finally, the dog barked again and I could hear voices and out steps the in law with a friend and their squirrel dog. I climbed down from the stand and went home.

Seems he forgot I asked to hunt that stand that very same morning. So I drove 3.5 hrs to sit in a stand for 20 mins top.
