Is it worth the trouble with FFS?

One thing I wanted to do when I retired was put out a " trapline " of crappie bushes so I could have enough that I could run them and catch a few when ever I want some to eat. But FFS wasn't around when I was thinking that.
This would be on OH so tons of pressure anyway.
Would I be doing all that work just so FFS guys would keep those bushes fished out?
Is it worth the trouble to put out crappie bushes anymore?

Lots of the guys I know using it won't "fish out" a bed. If there are 10 fish on a bed, they may catch 3-4 and move on.

My response would be to put out multiple "lines" at different depths.

Some beds we put out we could catch fish on the next day, and some never seemed to take.

I like doing it because it makes the reward more enjoyable, regardless.

I been running ffs for 5 years now.. 9 times out of 10, you can't fish out a brush pile.. typically you catch 1-3.. they get spooked and quite biting.. I have caught 10 before in one top.. but that's unusual for where I fish.. on pickwick..I've put out everything under the sink for piles.. but a tree branch tied with a concrete block works as good as anything…

lol ive got a few thousand waypoints that i didnt put out. SI and DI made it real easy to find brush, as long as its wood. those drain tube contraptions are harder to see.

Absolutely.. nothing hides from a hummingbird side scan..
I pull into a cove or creek.. troll down the center with the big motor, mark the brush piles and then hit them with the livescope

Well, I guess that ends my crappie bushes plan cause that electronic crap is all over every boat I see. I'm not doing all that work to provide spots for everybody around. I guess I'll just go bream fishing.

Depending on what you put out, it might not be worth the work anyway. I saw a guy on a pontoon putting out a bunch. I marked them on my sonar but within a year, they all rotted out or fell apart. It's much easier to just find other stuff. I've kinda noticed that people will put out too many in one spot. I like finding the very isolated cover in a cove vs a cove that is absolutely covered with sunken stuff. Either way...sidescanning an area has always been my goto for finding stuff.

Well, go back and read this thread and you'll understand why I'm gonna shelf this idea. I guess most people that have thought about making bushes will too. The electronics that we're told/sold will help fishing will hurt it in the long run.
Say I go to all that trouble to make some bushes then Joe , Sam, Bob,Bill, Mike and Tom all take the side scan and troll up the creek and mark all the bushes then each fish them different days and when I go …. Nothing or somebody already sitting on them.
Next the people like me that will put out bushes say " screw this , I'm not busting my azz to fix places for all these people." In a few years the old bushes rot and go away pushing the ffs/ side scan bunch onto the bushes that are left till they also rot and no new bushes will be put out to replace them. It just sucks but it's par for the course of this increasingly screwed outdoor world.

I get it. It's the same when a person only has public land to hunt. I spent a couple years cutting trails through the thickest crap. It was all briars and brambles. Undergrowth so thick you couldn't see 5 yards. I tried keeping the trails hidden by not clearing the opening to be visible. The dang deer did that. People found the trails. Told other people, soon the 200+ acres was covered up with people. Oh, I was thanked when they found out I was the person keeping the trails open. I had some health issues and have not hunted in 2 or 3 years. One guy who I keep in touch with said stuff is overgrown again and hardly anyone is out there this year. People love to use your hard work but never want to help do the work. I get it that you don't want to do the work for everyone else. I can't blame you at all.

We caught 30 crappie in 90 minutes this morning with active target 2. I ceratinly would not have been as effective without it

I guess I come from a time before all this stuff when we put out bushes by lineups, no waypoints or stuff like that and you could really hide them. The time of hiding spots is over now.

It won't be too many more years from now that the technology will be so advanced it will actually be like turning a TV on. Size and specie type will be easier to distinguish.

Look at it on the bright side, with FFS you can find and fish other peoples piles also.

That's here now, I can tell you probably 95% of the time if I'm looking at a crappie, bluegill, flathead, channel, blue, largemouth, smallmouth, etc.. you can also look at the screen and tell how big they are.. if you turn the grid on, and a crappie fills in one of the squares.. he's close to 2 pounds..

I wouldn't worry much on be fished by others, I've caught the couple fish on a bed come back around multiple times in a day and had more fish on it each time,multiple days in a row

I dont mind others fishing the stuff input out. Im sure lost of the best piles i fish were put out by someone else. I just wish more folks would do it. The natural structure in some of these lakes is drying up

Putting out bushes and running them like a trap line is really fun. I don't like all the tech crap and video game fishing but there's alot about this modern world I don't like. I don't like crotch rockets going by me on the road at 110 mph but I don't stop driving. I don't like transplants and their OnX but I don't quit hunting so I guess I'll make the best of this I can. I'm retired now so I can go during the week and take off weekends. And besides, I'm old too but there might be just enough left (or rather things haven't gone completely to hell yet) to last till I'm done.
