I would expect some germination, just may be slow to do so --- same with oats or wheat regarding that.
If I had oats on hand, would sure use them. If buying anything new to plant in coming week, would mainly go with wheat.
I prefer broadcasting oats with some wheat mixed with it ---- that mix seems to "broadcast" better than pure oats, oat seeds being too light to really work well in many spreaders. If convenient, would sure get some wheat to mix in with those oats.
And if you're going to the Co-Op anyway, get some crimson clover to throw into your mix ---- 2 or 3 lbs of crimson per 50 lbs of the wheat/oats can really "fill in" some otherwise bare spots, and give you a tad more forage, particularly in April/May.
Besides, it's "pretty" during turkey season. :)
Co-Op should sell the crimson cheap by the pound.
