To hunt with a metal detector on a river bank like the tennessee river at Savannah? Obviously not at Shiloh or in any particular park, but like just to park at a boat ramp and take out walking?
 
no..... look it up on the corp website. I believe you can only hunt with a permit and if you get one of those you can only hunt near boat ramps and it is illegal to take relics if you find one.
 
Digging on Federal land will get you some jail time. I used to work on a TVA reservation and hd some interaction with TVA Police. They told me that I could pick up any EXPOSED artifact but absolutely no digging. They have an evidence room with consfiscated artifacts and surviellance pictures of the ones doing the digginng before they were arrested.

Sooooo......Is it illegal to walk the river bank with a metal detector? Absolutely not. Better leave the shovel at home though.
 
The ans. is No, I worked in Land Mgt. for TVA. You can apply for a permit to hunt on TVA property but only at swimming areas and boat ramps,you can go to the TVA web site and look under metal detecting guide lines, TVA ownes Property all along the Tennessee River for above Knox. to Ky. Dam
 
Wow.. one would think if you can hunt the land, you could do this as well.


I know ALOT of ginseng hunters that break the law then..

Since that is still considered government land, it could be just as severe of punishment as getting caught hunting at Shiloh or Chickamauga!

Like the others said, the TVA permits are only good for beach areas and camp grounds. AND you are limited to digging 6 inches or less, AND its seasonal when you can and can't.
