Is 300 grain sabot too much?

I have been shooting a 300 grain sabot with 100 grain load of Blachorn 209 out of my Traditions Vortec. Actually had the screws in my scope base break off in the gun, but I think it was just faulty screws. Was told at local gun shop this was a little much, both sabot and load. Should I reduce to a 250 grain sabot and 90 grain Blackhorn?

Ok well I'm shooting 300 gr bullets and Smokeless powder and know of hundreds of others doing the same. Nobody I know has broken any screws. Some of the guys are generating as much or more recoil as a 300 Win mag or a 12 gauge 3 1/2 inch turkey load. I don't think your anywhere near that. And also it sounds like you need to find a new gun shop they are feeding you bull.

So would I lose accuracy by reducing to 90 gr of Blackhorn? The reason I ask is I used 100 gr of 777 back when I used it, and I know Blackhorn is a litter hotter.

Use blue thread locker and tighten to 15-20 in lbs. Your load is fine, shooting 90gr bh209 and 300gr xtp here.

I used a 300 gr Hornady XTP with 100 gr loose 777, to shoot through this:

And immediately through this:

I don't like shooting through brush, but the 300 XTP has a heck of a lot of momentum. I think I'll keep using them.
