I will be hunting some new property in December that is pretty large and was wondering if there is an iPhone GPS app that you can mark where your truck is (or a landmark) and after scouting/hunting you can use the app to direct you back to the starting point. Basically like a Garmin GPS does.

Anyone know of an app for this?

I have looked at Cabelas Recon. How does it work for setting a waypoint, tracking and then return directions?

Will Scoutlook work like a regular GPS and guide you back to a waypoint?
 
I haven't used any of the GPS apps because I carry a Garmin 62s, but I spend a lot of time in the woods all over middle tennessee for my job. I use google maps from time to time in conjuction with my GPS.

Most of the time my phone's GPS works fine, but just remember a smartphone-based GPS is only as good as the weakest link in your phone's GPS receiver, internal compass, and data signal.

I am unable to get my phone to locate me often enough that I would be very hesitant to count on it as my primary navigational device. If you hunt flat land with a good data signal, you will probably be OK, but I would do some testing before I headed into the boonies for an evening hunt if getting back to the truck was dependent on a phone GPS.
 
You may wan to look at ActInNature also. I have also downloaded Navigator Pro as well, but I haven't tried it yet. Both are free.

Easy to use markers use as guide trip you can follow you previous trail i love it it has mapping cache so if you dont have signal you will have a map

Backcountry navigator pro is what I use. U have access to areal and topo style maps. Thing is with it u can download the plates and even if u dont have a signal u can still view map. It tracks your whole route. Theres 200 different icons to name your waypoint. Make detailed description about each waypoint and if u want to get there just click on the waypoint and hit go. It will put you in ,the excact tree your wanting to get in. I navigated my way thru 11,000 acres (7500 all timber). Stopped at the places I had to check out and created many points along the way.
