The hunting up here has not been what I expected at all. It's been very tough with few sightings. I have seen a few small bucks but nothing that would break 110". Some locals say the rut is on, some say they're on lock down already, and others say it hasn't started. So I'm confused as to what phase we are in. There is still a decent amount of standing corn in my area, which could be the culprit. Hopefully this weather will kick them off. It just blows my mind that they aren't up cruisin in search of does. The sign is here but probably done at night. We will see what the next few days have in store.
 
I've bow hunted Iowa many years in the open country part of the state and standing corn is the culprit. If there is any within 5 miles the deer will be in it. Some farmers wait to cut their corn for this reason. Once they cut the last of it the deer spread out till winter hits. If you can get permission try stalking the corn. It can be an exciting way to bow hunt. If you can hunt the edges of the corn especially near a water source that can work too. Good luck. I hope to get drawn next year.

Good luck. Hopefully things will pick up soon. Right now, I'm halfway through Arkansas, heading to Kansas.

I hunted and guided in IA far many years. It has always been "Not what hunters expect". What you are experiencing is typical IA hunting. What you need is a drastic cold wave. Then, the standing corn doesn't even figure in.
 
Heading out a few days before T-giving, then hanging around until Gun 1 opens. I got a tag for Zone 2 and a relative of the wife that says they knock down 3-4 160"+ every year. He is supposed to dial me in on his farm.Leaving for Ohio in 14 hours. Just got a call about 30 mins ago that the big boys started moving yesterday. New deer, not on camera.Hang in there. You could be right on the edge of it cutting loose! Let the games begin.
 
Well the games have begun!! They have flat out busted wide open today. I saw three shooters and my buddy who tagged out had to video 2 studs. I rattled in bout a 145-150" in today. He literally ran to me but circled down wind of. Absolutely amazing!! It's on!!

most of the reports I have been hearing from the Midwest is that they are headed for a very late rut. I believe we are behind here as well. hunt hard, it could start to trickle in any time
