So I was scouting in between hunts and then I found this. It was 5 feet up in this tree. Would've been an impressive buck. Had a 19 1/2 inch inside wide spread. Any opinions on how it ended up 5 feet off the ground?

This is private property. I've never had a problem with trespassers.

It's hung 5ft up out on twig branches that aren't large enough to support that head if it were fresh, let alone it plus the weight of whatever animal could drag it up there. So it was placed there after it had already decomposed considerably. As far as I know no animals besides humans are hanging rotted deer skulls out on thin branches like Christmas tree ornaments. So IMO you indeed do have a trespasser problem.

My forester friend finds buck sheds and head / racks all the time. He always hangs them up to help the landowner find it. He will even hang them on a ladder stand if it is nearby. I once asked him why he didn't carry the rack out of the woods. He showed me his heavy equipment pack and I understood ;o)
