i just noticed something while updating my spread sheet

first light to 9 am

i dont hardly ever hunt past 9 and hardly have any luck till last hour of light
 
That is interesting. I'm wondering if it tells the whole story though. What I mean is, is you hardly ever hunted past 0900 on morning trips, and concentrated on last light hunts, is that why the numbers point towards most movement early and late?

i hardly hunt past 9 so you are right



but i often hunt the last 2 or 3 hours of light in the eve but yet i still kill most in the last hour
 
This year I have daw more deer past 9 and have hunted one evening so I don't have any info on them. I hunt in the woods I might add .

I tried to start a poll on this very thing but got no response. At Ames we're killing quite a few bucks in the 140+ range this year as well as many of our other shooters after 9 with most in the 11-1 range. I've read many posts on here about kills in that mid day range as well. I don't know whether more hunters are hunting longer or whether there's actually more mid day movement this year.
 
9 to Noon/1:00 have been very good times for me. Especially when I hunt the long ridge across from my house. Seems like the does finally feed their way up there after 8:30 most mornings and with the hunters down in the bottom getting restless.... Things get interesting. i often times don't head up there until well past 7:00 to get in my climber.

I've noticed more midday movement this year than ever before, yet I've hunted the same amount as years past. I was looking over some info last night doing some calculations and realized that roughly 40% of the deer I've seen this year have been between 10-2. That's double the amount of any year before this one. Also, moon phase or temp doesn't seem to be a huge factor in relation to the midday activity but it seems to be slightly better the colder it is and the fuller the moon.
 
When i first got on here, I used to keep up with it in that detail. Now i just list what i saw and where by date.

I believe that 100%, because like you, i am generally down by 9:30 and mostly hunt mornings. Coincidentally I see most of my deer in the morning between legal light and 9 am. I have sat the mid day with no luck and In the afternoon I'm in by 1:30-2. It depends on where I am, but the last hour of light is the best.

the two i shot this weekend i shot at 3:30 or so so that is about the last hour of light.
 
Hey Mike, I remember your poll. I didn't see much of anything past 0900, and only hunted all day 2-3 times so I didn't reply.

What you really need to know is how many hours were spent during each of the time periods. Just because one time period has produced 10 times more kills, if you spent 10 times more hours hunting during that period, the rate (kills/hour) at which you are killing bucks between the two time periods would be the same.
