Read this last night and figured some of you would enjoy it as well. Kudos to those scientists and students leading the charge on CWD research.
GUTS OF PREDATORY CATS CAN DESTROY CWD PRIONS
GUTS OF PREDATORY CATS CAN DESTROY CWD PRIONS
That's the critical question.Interesting article. I usually see a couple bobcats a year on our farm. I wonder if these researchers will be able to identify a specific enzyme in the cats gut that is destroying the prions.
Doubtful. It appears animals that eat a 100% meat diet are the ones with the enzyme.I wonder if humans also have that enzyme to destroy the prions.
MOST predators will kill the easy prey. A sick animal is the easiest prey. That doesn't mean they don't kill anything they can get their teeth on, but the easiest go the fastest.Interesting article.........he lost me at this quote "Chase also pointed to other studies showing mountain lions tend to select CWD-infected mule deer over healthy prey. " Lions don't run around examining deer to kill. Apex kills/eats first available. Prove me wrong.
Right, at least they know what they are working with. I would be really interested in any study on how they go about isolating and identifying a specific enzyme that is having this action on the prions. That's the critical question.
