I carry my JJE on me when I'm in the yard working, mowing, etc. don't get to hunt so that's not an issue

I just carry a dove load.
I carry my shield but also carry an NAA sidewinder 22 mag with the cci 8 shot in it.

I'm not a gigantic puss and admire them as I move on my way. This ridiculous fear from grown arse men over snakes is comical. I see them, I respect them, and am not the least bit afraid.
The same guy who is terrified and must kill every snake does nothing to worry about mountain dew, fast food, and being an overweight health nightmare. Explain that to me? All of those are guaranteed to shorten your life yet a snake which you Have minuscule chances of being bitten by is the the grim reaper.
I have seen only one rattlesnake this year and am still in awe of how big, concealed and cool it was.

I've been sitting on the ground fishing in February in 50 degrees temp , reached over to get a minnow out of the minnow bucket and a copperhead was coiled up between me and the bucket. I've had a rattlesnake that i never heard strike at me while getting on my mower.... it's untelling how many close encounters I've had that I never saw.
Non poisonous I let slide, I may have even witnessed a turkey trying to eat/kill a black blue looking snake last week.... I stopped in the road so I wouldn't hit it.
Seen turkeys do the same, thought it was really unusual.
With those claws and beaks I wouldn't wanna be on their bad side.

And? I've been set up on a turkey only to look over and inches from my thigh was a coiled up Timber Rattlesnake, he didn't bite me or chase me and posed no immediate danger. I moved over and he never budged.
I have stepped down inches from copperheads, cottonmouths, and rattlesnakes and all they did was slide away.
This irrational fear that grown men have of snakes is bizarre. As I said the same dude carrying a snake piece ready to snuff out any snake they see stops and gets a Mountain dew on the way home. Or swings by McDonalds, or is far fatter than they should be.
they are so scared of a snake they pay no attention to the impending diabetes, heart atatck, heart failure, cholesterol, and a million other things that will effect their health long before a snake.
heck, most pay no worry to ticks which is one of the most dangerous things in the woods.
Snake killing is for giant pussies to be blunt. Respect all gods creatures and they'll respect you. Except ticks screw those evil bastards haha

We get it, you a bad man, but I will still take out any poisonous snake that comes within striking distance of me, and besides snakes taste good. Now, I won't go out of my way to kill them, they have to present a clear and present danger, but I won't take the chance that this one time this particular snake decides that I was too close.

I met a realtor to look at a piece of property one time in Alabama, and we happen to see a nice 4ft or so rattle snake going across one of the roads. He insisted on trying out his newly purchased shield to kill it. After 3 missed shots and a jammed bullet, he decided it wasn't worth it anymore.I'm not going to try and hit a snake with my 40 or 45. My local had about a dozen, even some that looked like a 6" barrel a few weeks ago and several governors....... all gone now!

I wear hiking boots with gaiters from Academy and watch where I step. Don't carry anything to kill a snake with as I let them go. If I run across a rattlesnake or copperhead all bets are off. This one was waiting on me at camp when I got back Saturday. Gave him a little nudge and he went back to the woodpile.

No, I've never had need to kill a snake while hunting. I might stop and take a pic or I might just keep walking

When I got my hunting land, I found a few of these, this one of the longest. Couldn't tell what left this but I figured as long as they stayed out of my trailer or deer stand all was good. I thought about getting some snake boots or at least a snake stick but ultimately figured I had gone this long without them so decided against it.
I don't carry anything specifically for snakes, but have used what I had handy a couple times. Most have just been unlucky enough to surprise me, one that was just inches from my leg rattled it's tail under the leaves to simulate a rattler, 12guage with #7 (was dove hunting) took him out, turned out to be a hog nose. Another was a cotton mouth that decided it was a good idea to slither across my boots while my my battle buddy was digging a foxhole during a field exercise, kabar to the neck and into my mess kit with that one...1SG chewed me out over that one, after our LT told him the snake I cooked was great. But when they give me the courtesy to let me know they are there so I can take precautions, they are safe from me, specially if they are non poisonous.
This guy decided my worm looked good enough to eat, took a bit to make him spit it out but after a few minutes he got to swim away.
This one stayed around almost an entire day while I built my new deer stand. He was close to my toolbox, so had to constantly keep going by him. He too got to slither away, as do most garden snakes that are around the house, unless I accidently get them with the mower.
