Input .243 AR

For those that have a AR .243, how do you like it? I am thinking about getting one, but have heard that they are not so good with factory ammo.

Any thoughts?

can't help you but why 243 instead of one of the more popular(223,308) rounds?

From just a ballistic standpoint the .243 beats both the .223 & .308 cartridge. As far as deer sized game a .243 will do everything a .308 will if you know how to drive it.

I already have an AR10, so all in would need is the .243 upper. I just don't know anyone who has had one in .243, I have read that they are better with handloads vs. factory loads.

you have read correctly But that could be said about any calibur or gun.a round perfected to each gun is the best way to go if you are into handloading.if you dont you have to try factory ammo untill you find the most accurate/price.alot boils down to what you want it for.if practice is all a person needed rimefire/223 that uses low powder drops & cheap bullets are needed.for a man stopper to way out younder 243 & up.55g - 100g in factory loads make it very versital with the 243.too many chocies & too little $ makes it ruff :) ,heck if i could afford what i wanted it would take a large building to store them in

i agree with mike. thats the only reason i bought another 223. alot cheaper for me to load bullets for it than my 308.

I have a R-25 in 243. It is a great shooter, but it does like factory loads over my handloads. My bolt gun prefers my handloads, but just the opposite on the R-25. I don't shoot it a lot, and it is heavy to tote around, but it is accurate. I also have a DPMS in 223.
