Called one in for my buddy this morning and could tell was a mature gobbler despite had no visual beard whatsoever. Well I figured it would have one and told him to take the shot. First time had used dad's old Lynch call for most of the calling. Worked great! Also used a little bit of mouth calling. After got to him he did have a stubble of a beard left . Either fell off from fright of when I had used decoys in the past or beard rot.

I killed one about 10 years ago that didn't have a visible beard either. I shot him when his head peaked above the hill. He was a mature bird with 1 1/8" spurs. Only weighed 17 1/2 lbs. though.
