Had all this full of water this morning,got to my place early,trying to save my trees I planted last fall/winter.Had about 150 gallons I think,hope it helps.
 
I saw a topic relating to this over on the QDMA forum today and a popular commercial grower mentioned that about 5 gallons per tree every week to 10 days would be good during these dry times. I would try to apply right at dark or even in the dark to reduce evaporation. I got a call today from my best friend asking for my combination to my gate in Morgan Co, he was off work today so he just upped and decided to go water some apple trees that I had put in over the winter. That made me feel good, cant beat someone that appreciates you letting them bowhunt so much that they just go out in this heat to water trees when you didnt even mention or ask them too lol I sure wouldnt have done it.
 
Man,I wish I could do that Steven,would need about 180 gallons just for my newly planted trees.I did mulch around all the new ones,hoping to help hold moisture.But I just cant go every week.Im hoping the ones with a couple years under their belt will hold their own.

That is cool,most people just wanna show up and hunt,have no idea what all else goes on.
 
I would do it as well. Im getting up early and doing the same, basically hooking my pump up and letting it water. Next week hopefully a timer is in place so I don't have to worry about it.

Good info, I was wondering how often I should be watering. Starting tomorrow.
 
I planted 4 at my house and am watering them every morning and every night. I mulched them and then took a spade and made a little trench outside the mulch. I water the tree and saturate the mulch and then fill the trench up so it can soak in too. Not sure if that's making a difference but their hanging in there at the moment.

I'm with you... doing the best we can in an 104 degree heat wave and no rain over the last three weeks. Yesterday, I used my UTV to carry 400 gallons of water to newly planted trees. I hope it helps them hold on for a few more weeks.

My established trees are really suffering as well. Large persimmon trees have wilted leaves and are dropping their fruits. A few apple trees are losing fruit as well. Muscadine's are dropping to the ground. I image the acorn crop will suffer as well.


It is going to be a very hard summer.
