I'm sick!

A lot of y'all know I'm deaf in one ear and have an extremely hard time telling direction plus horrible at calling. Thought about giving up several times over the 15-16 years if hunting. With 1 long beard under my belt thanks to Jason Bagby and BigCountry71 and a Jake I may have called in 2 years ago.

This morning I hear one bird a long off then nothing after fly down at 6:20. Did couple of loud yeps and purrs hoping to get his attention but not a sound from him. Knowing there is only 1 bird in the area, starting to think about giving up. Little bit after 7 I hear a faint gobbles. Did couple of yeps nothing. About 15 mins later he sounds off and coming. Couple clucks followed by fighting purrs he starts gobbling hard! Every putt purr he gobbles. I'm thinking he has crossed the field and coming down the fence row to me when I catch movement to my right. A white head in the corn stalks looking my way. Let out another soft purr and he gobbles 3 times. Now I'm shaking and feels like my heart is going to explode. Thinking he is 40-45 yds I shoot and shoot. Missed twice!

I'm sick, but excited having just called in my first long beard. Feel like a kid again hunting for the first time. Can't wait to do it again tomorrow now that I have renewed hope.

That's awesome except for the miss. I called 2 hot gobblers across a corn field on opening morning 2 years ago, and missed. It sucks but you'll get another chance. Good luck

I feel ya. I'm deaf in one ear also. Can not tell direction at all. This morning I had a couple of birds gobbling. I could swear that they were behind me to my left. To my surprise they were in front of me to my right :roll:

I missed a gobbler at 25 yards Monday morning. My safety wasn't all the way off on my first attempt and I rushed it on the 2nd.I know the way you feel bro, every time I think about it my stomach turns lol but it happens to everyone of us.

When Roost1 and I hunt together, it's a comedy. A bird gobbles and at the same time we point opposite directions. Wish I had taken better care of my hearing....

Know the feeling. I'm deaf in my left ear and it is the worst possible thing to happen to a turkey hunter. The last 2 mornings I've gone I have not been able to get on the bird before fly down due to me walking in circles until the gobble gets louder and then I know which direction he is in.

It cost me a Osceola last yr at Big Cypress.

I had one at 6 yds today.....pulled trigger and it wouldn't move...seems when my lovely bride cleaned it for me, a spring got unhooked in the trigger group. I actually figured I had a jam, cleared gun, reloaded while a monster Tom was beating the living daylights out of my funky chicken....no dice...had to completely disassemble under the tree and keep track of all the little pins in my pack pocket......geez. I did see quite a show tho...he never would have had the chance to get to the decoy had my gun been functioning. The decoys were so tight because I set up in limited visibility in the switchgrass.

I'm lucky enough to have a wife that will clean a gun after a kid hunts with it in the rain and I have to go away on business. I'll never complain, but I did teach her how to do a function check.
