I have an opoortunity to go to Illinois this weekend to muzzy hunt. Problem is, I didn't put in for the non resident drawing. I checked online and they have over 100 permits left for the county I'm gonna hunt, but it is OTC. I would have to personally go to Illinois to attempt to get one. Anybody have any dealings with this? Should I just go and take a chance?

I've been in the same exact situation a couple times. Had it work out one year and kinda got burnt the other time. I ended up having to buy a muzzleloader only tag and came back for second season two weeks later. I was hunting public and had a backup county even. Not to be negative but those published numbers for leftover tags are pretty old. The time I got burnt, there were 400+ left on the website. However, that was a pretty popular county. I would say the chances of any of those tags being left is pretty iffy but you do always have the option of a muzzleloader only tag or a doe tag. Muzzleloader tag will let you hunt second season and the muzzleloader only season. Good luck

My inlaws own 60 acres in Golconda in Pope Co. I have 2 cameras I am going to check some time between this week and next.

Well I struck out on Illy. Called Tuesday and no either sex permits left, but the had over 400 doe tags if anyone wants to make the drive

We're not far from there. You should see a pretty good spike in movement. We have buddies down there bow hunting this week and they have been seeing a ton of deer in Shawnee

I have property in Franklin county. They received my application a day late...my fault. I went up with my partner anyway and tried to purchase one of the many tags leftover. I could not get a "gun" tag. They only had ML tags for 2nd season. I heard this is usually the case. I put in on time this year. Not worth the taking the chance to make the drive only to be turned down....IMO

I passed on an opportunity this week to go to Hamilton Co Illinois and hunt 1400 acres for the same reasons. However next year it's on!!!!
