does it disappoint you and make it harder to go hunting cause your telling yourself your not gonna see anything? or does it drive you crazy and make you hunt more to try and get that kill?

im in the woods all the time if i see them i made a good call on stand location if i dont it is due to bad weather and or stand location
the deer are there but they cant be in front of you all the time but they will never be in front of you if you are not there

It makes me stress to death about picking the right spot. If I start to stop seeing deer I want to change spots every time... The whole time I'm sitting there just saying "I shouldn't be here, I should be at my other stand"

Makes me want to kill a deer eve more if I'm not seeing any... Also makes me indecisive about where to hunt
Now if I hunt one stand two or there times without seeing anything, I will quickly get burned out on that one particular spot. but it won't stop me from looking for deer and hunting whenever I can.

Because most of our stands are in very low visibility set-ups, it's pretty common not to see a lot of deer when hunting on the property I hunt. The percent of hunts with deer sightings range from 60% in a fantastic year down to 20% in a terrible year.
However, that's the average for all hunter. Every year, "somebody" is going to have a great year--seeing deer all the time--and somebody is going to have a terrible year--seeing very few deer at all. That's just the way the odds work. I sure do hate in when it's my year not to see anything! Makes me question everything I thought I knew about deer behavior.

I stress a little but it drives me to try harder.
eventually it happens.
in 2011 I went 0 for 4 weeks. I saw a yearling 6 pt on opening day of ML and didn't see a deer again until Dec. 17th.
I was hunting public and private land and some of that land was in Giles Co. Finally killed a 3 pt buck on Dec 17th.

All the above. I'm disappointed, discouraged, mad at the deer, mad at myself.......Sometimes it's bad stand choice, weather related, or just one of those days with little to no movement. I hunt where there are deer. When I get skunked I sometimes second guess myself. Consequetive days of getting skunked push me into overdrive to correct whatever or wherever my misjudgements might be. In the last 2 years I've seen at least 1 deer on 86.1 percent (43 hunts) and 71.8 percent (46 hunts) respectively and way more total deer than total hunts. I expect to see deer. That's just how I define a successful hunt. I don't have to shoot and usually don't but the point is that you can't not seeing any.

they have done some logging and gas exploration on the place we hunt in morgan county. i have not seen a deer up there since they started that. everybody else has and killed some good ones.

If I go 4-5 sits without seeing anything I have to go to one of my doe holes to shoot one and reset myself. I have too much blood in my eyes to go such long as a week without even seeing anything. Those that do go even longer I must say you deserve far more than your getting. That's some dedication right there.

I am spoiled for sure because I am disappointed if I don't see something on every hunt. That will happen especially if you are hunting a mature buck. We measure sightings per hour not hours per sighting. I will have a dry run and conclude the deer were not moving then you go to the check station and there are dead deer laying everywhere. That sucks but makes me re think my strategy. Deer are almost always moving somewhere during any 6 hour window.

I guess I really shouldn't complain, as I had several very successful years in a row, prior to last season, but dang, what a "catcher upper" for all the bad that I had missed! :cry:

I've seen two deer from the stand all season. Been on 9 hunts total.
I have not sat in the same spot over two times. It doesn't really do either for me. I know I am on big bucks. I just have to learn how to overcome the difficulty of big woods hunting and one day I will luck up and kill one. I would have likely killed a nice one if the wind was right for a stand that had a new buck walk by in daylight this weekend.
If I were hunting to kill a deer (just any deer), it would disappoint me. Luckily, I am not.

It frustrates me to go very many hunts at all without seeing a deer. I can handle one hunt with no deer but honestly the second hunt with zero sightings gets to me. I've spent enough time on those type hunts in the past. A perfect example is 2004 when I hunted a lot through ML & Rifle season and did not see a single deer until the last Saturday of the season in January when I saw a nice buck in the last minutes of legal shooting light - and missed him at 400+ yards. :( That was the ONLY deer I saw in an entire season! It rained and the wind blew every time I hunted that year. Got hard to get up and go by the time the season ended.
