I just planted Imperial PowerPlant (with a clover/chicory mix around the edge)

Not exactly planting 1 thing

from what i am learning lately, i would just mow. we been bush hogging some our fields and the deer are coming to them like never before.i guess the deer are eating the wild grass and clover that grows in them .the guy that own the farm next to mine said they dont mess with plots any more either. just mow whats all ready growing in them. the deer seem to love it .

Instead of just mowing, if you can, lightly disk. Mowing promotes grass and deer don't eat grass. Deer are primarily weed eaters in summer, and disking promotes weeds over grass.

What it is.........wheat mostly. we mix clover in and if oats were cheaper we would plant more of them as a mix. You just cant beat wheat for production but of course if i were a rich eccentric i would plant a lot more of other things. I like the results we get from wheat/clover.
