There is no game ward exception in the 4th amendment of the US Constitution. Therefore, game wardens have no special powers.

Correct. By state statute they do have some inspection authority for vehicles/ persons. All other requires a warrant.

Its my understanding that they are under the same guidelines and regulations as LE officers. Probable cause and or reasonable suspicion still a requirement. In a nutshell reasonable suspicion gives the officer the right to stop and question and individual. It does not give them the right to detain or search them. Cause gives the officer reason to detain and search someone.

I think you open yourself up to a lot more inspection on WMA and public land than you would hunting private land IMHO.

My only 3 encounters with a game warden in over 35 years of hunting have all been positive and professional.

1. on a public dove hunt to check plugs and game limits. Was checked and sent on my way.
2. On WMA on a closed hunt was checked to see if I had proper permits. Was checked and sent on my way.
3. A group of us were on the side of the road in Nolensville and the game warden came rolling up on us and jumped out and was looking for someone specific. When he realized that none of us were him or none of us were associated with him he left as fast as he came up on us. He did not ask for ID or LIc information did not check our game inventory or anything.

I am out hiking a non hunting dam reservation. I have seen tons of deer sign and three bait buckets, a tree stand and a ton of poaching sign.
