Ice Fishing in Maine

[Bad habit]

So I got a chance to go to Maine this weekend to see some people I used to work with. Since I have never been ice fishing I contacted a guide (got VERY lucky on a really good one) and we had a friggin' blast. Ended up with 10 pike and lost one. This ain't like fishing in Tennessee, boys! The guide was very happy with the size which ranged from 24 to 32 inches. I will be back.

I've never iced fished but have fished specifically for northern pike in Canadian lakes.

Kinda reminds me of bowfin (grinnel) I catch in West TN.

Grew up in northern Minnesota. We could always tell what kind of winter it would be if we could pull the fish house out on the lake by Thanksgiving with the snowmobile. Great times out there ice fishing! Snowy version of deer camp (with holes in the floor). ;)

My old friend in Maine used to call out coyote onto the lake and then run them down with a snow machine!!!!!

Did the lake "talk to you" ? First time i ever went ice fishing, I was blown away by the sound the ice makes .. Scared the crap out of me

I didn't really hear the ice make much noise. It was fairly windy so that may be why. I was probably most surprised by how rough it was on the snowmobile due to the underlying ice.

Next time I will have a felt insole in my boots. I think my feet got so cold I did not feel it until I warmed up some.

I used to ice fish a lot. Even with ice 3 feet thick you still get those pressure ridges popping and booming.
